Wynoochee
Sunday, June 7, 2009 at 09:53PM Still no dolls... We went camping this weekend at the Wynoochee river. We loaded up our little 10 foot boat with a tent and gear, motored our way out onto the river and stopped off at flat ground to set up camp right on the river. I am normally indoors at all hours, so it is neat to be getting out so much lately. The dolls are suffering, but I am picking up new inspiration. ;]
I took all the following pictures with the camera in my iphone, so they are not the highest quality, but pretty good for a phone! (The phone had no reception out there, so I am glad it was good for something ;p)
This was my favorite shot. There was a little path to the left of our tent. We went down that path to gather fallen branches for firewood. While on the path, I turned around and saw just a bit of the lake and mountains behind it--glowing like a little window. The first time I walked down the path, I about had a panic attack. There was so much buzzing and rustling and so many spiderwebs--nature was freaking me out. When I was little, I ran through the forest barefoot like a wild child, but at some point, I lost that. It was nice to get a little more comfortable with dirt again (the buzzing still makes me nervous though).
As you can see, the weather was interesting... we had a little bit of mist rain and some sprinkling, but it never quite poured, which was nice. I took this pic while we were putting around in the boat, but it is quite similar to the view we had out of the front of the tent--the mountains surrounded us on all sides and the glassy lake went out as far as I could see.
Hmm. That's a chair. I don't know why I added this picture.
There were lots of pretty little wild flowers all around. There were some white ones I wanted to photograph, but there was a honey bee hanging out in them, so I didn't want to bother him.
There was a super creepy giant rootball down the path. I didn't get very close to it--just snapped a picture and ran away.
And I lazily looked for four-leaf clovers, but found none. There were a lot of huge clovers--I think those are lucky enough. The clovers made me think of this grumpy pin doll I made in batch 6. "Three leaves are just as lucky as four."
When I was little, my dad used to hold a contest for my sister and me to see who could find a four-leaf clover faster. Once when I was about 7, I looked forever (probably 20 minutes in reality) and could not find one. I needed to win. So, I found the teeniest clover I could find (about an eighth of an inch or so) and I very carefully tore one of the leaves to make three into four. I won a dollar. I still feel bad about cheating.
lazy day

The comment you made about photographing that root thing and running away - made me laugh and also made me think of me. lol
Beautiful pics.
Your work is lovelyyyyy!!!!!
Jess your camping weekend looks wonderful....love the pics (great resolution for phone pics). That root ball is awesome - looks very mysterious, and yes, creepy (I probably would have run after snapping it too lol).
Your adventure reminds me of that song, "If You Go Out In the Woods Today." Your pictures should be an inspiration for a new series of pin dolls.
Hi Jessica, your trip looked wonderful and I loved the giant root ball. It did look spooky like something would live in it. Thanks for coming by my web site and leaving such nice compliments about my witch. That means a lot to me coming from an artist such as yourself. Your faces are so enchanting and beautiful. I am working on mine...sigh. Tammy
What a wonderful day you had! I love all the pictures. They just made me sigh~ In the warmer weather my dolls too suffer.. I slow down and take stock of life during this time of year. It sort of rejuvenates me for the cold months ahead.
I LOVE that crazy root! I got a kick out of you "running" from it! And I almost always can find a 4 leaf clover. I have lots of them pressed in books... Though I can't say any have brought me "luck" ;-)

Thank you all for the great comments! Now I feel like a bad host taking so long to get to them :]
Abi--thank you! One of these days I will learn more about these mysterious awards...
Linda, I really did run sadly enough. And as it was getting dark and my fiance was heading down the path to get more wood, I would make my trips parallel to his cause there was no way I was going in there alone ;p.
Bettina, Thank you :].
Sue, thank you :]. I really should get in touch with nature more often. It probably wouldn't hurt most doll makers to get out a little more :].
Bobbie, I have no clue what that song is, so now you are going to make me google it.
Tammy, thank you for your wonderful compliment :]. And not all beauty is the same anyway--your work has its own brand of wonderful.
Joanna, you probably would have made the clover hunt much more fun--hehe. I am glad to know I am not the only one slacking on dolls lately...poor dolls. We pick up our new puppy Saturday, so I probably won't get much done this weekend either. Ah well--just means that when I do get the opportunity to doll again, they will be more inspired ;].
