Hand Model

I purchased this Hand Model from Dick Blick about a month ago along with some Golden Fluid Acrylics I needed to replenish. I was hoping the hand would make a good model for my "About Hands" mini class I will be teaching at this next year's Portland Art & Soul.

The hand is life-cast in plaster from a large man's hand. I know plaster usually shrinks about 10 percent, so his hand must have been enormous! Look at it compared with my fingers below. The thumb is three or four times the size of mine! I think this will be fun to sketch :].

Pillow Form Doll Class

Dolls by Jessica (me on the Left), Tracey (Middle) & Cora (Right)

Today I taught a trial run doll making class in my home. I had two ladies--Tracey and Cora from work over and we made Pillow Form Dolls. Neither one had ever sculpted a doll before, but they did great! The face was molded with one of my molds, so they look like sisters (we all tweaked our faces a bit). The rest of the doll is 100% theirs! The class took most of the day. I love how the dolls all kind of match each other. That was not planned--just happened :].

Pin Doll Batch Four

Yay! Pin doll batch four is complete! There are 15 new dolls total. I had a few commissions and a few Halloween pieces in there. Overall, I am pretty pleased with them. I will be listing the dolls in my etsy shop over the next few days.

This is my last effort to make dolls prior to Portland Art & Soul. It seems all of the class proposals for future retreats are due at the same time (Early October). Between creating proposal samples and preparing for my A&S classes, I am in for a busy next two weeks!
